My job as mayor and administrator is to present to our fellow citizens all the opportunities for entrepreneurship and the instruments through which this can be achieved,“ said the mayor of Kyustendil, Eng. Ognyan Atanasov.
He opened a seminar on “Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Kyustendil,” organized by Brand Media Bulgaria as part of the activities of the European project “Career Transition Opportunities” (TOP JOBS).
Atanasov emphasized the importance of European financial instruments for the development of the local economy and the creation of new jobs.
The event, co-financed by the European Union, was organized by Brand Media Bulgaria in partnership with the Municipality of Kyustendil.
Mr. Atanasov recalled the difficult transition the region went through after the mines closed a decade ago, when the municipality faced economic uncertainty and a lack of support mechanisms. „The so-called Green Deal caught us unprepared. We had no tools – we were thrown in at the deep end without a life jacket.“
The big wave hit us then, but now every financial instrument that is invested wisely means new jobs, better pay in existing companies, and opportunities for start-ups,” he emphasized.
The mayor also noted the role of good practices and examples from people who have already succeeded in developing their entrepreneurial ideas. “Things are in the hands of our fellow citizens – to be active, to participate in the various procedures and programs to invest in their ventures in Kyustendil,” he said, emphasizing that this is precisely how well-paid jobs can be guaranteed.
Mr. Atanasov also drew attention to the importance of security and quality of life, not only for entrepreneurs but for all citizens.
It is important for people to be able to live here – in a clean place, surrounded by beautiful nature, with stable incomes and opportunities to raise their children.
