Brand Media Bulgaria, in partnership with the Regional Economic Development Agency – Stara Zagora and Europe Direct Center – Stara Zagora, is pleased to announce that registration for the “Just Transition in Stara Zagora” international conference is open. The event will take place on 12 March 2025 at Vereya Hotel in Stara Zagora.
The conference aims to provide a view of the energy transformation in the region by showcasing good practices and lessons learned from European regions in the process of addressing industrial and economic challenges. By focusing on sustainable development, job creation, upskilling and retraining, the event will promote solutions that support the social and economic cohesion of regions in the process of transformation.
Representatives of national and local authorities, the European Union, education and vocational training providers, the private sector, and trade unions, among others, will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Stara Zagora in the context of socio-economic transformation and the contemporary challenges facing the sustainable development of the region, such as mismatches in the labour market. International guests from coal regions in transition will present successful initiatives financed by the Just Transition Fund and other cohesion funds, which can serve as a benchmark for Stara Zagora when stimulating new economic opportunities and employment. Experts from the European Commission and national managing authorities will explain the EU’s plans to support regions in transition, present future calls for project proposals, and provide guidance on implementing ideas borrowed from the experience of other countries.

13:45 – Panel 2: “Money Talks: How Cohesion Funds Seed the Jobs of the Future in Transition Regions”
Learn about successful initiatives from Konin (Poland), Zasavje (Slovenia) and other transition regions. These will be presented by companies and organizations driving the economic transformations there.
15:15 – Closing of the conference
